Artist Profile : Ron J. Fourie

Born and raised in Zimbabwe,  Ron J. Fourie is a widely traveled and yet grounded young  artist with an interestingly clever eye on the canvas.

Being self-taught yet always learning to improve and increase potential and his understanding of his chosen trade,  he is slowly but surely taking his time as he carefully lines up his skills to even par with the best of the best in the current art scene despite his limited resources. He is clearly one to watch.

Although he is virtually unknown in the notable art galleries of the world which are widely dominated by the best of the best,  Ron is making his own dents and presence felt wherever he is.

Last year he took upon himself to stage an inspirational and yet risky initiative,  and it paid immense dividends. He founded the "Save Me" Wildlife Conservation Art Exhibition and called on the international artists to partner with him in the cause. He might not have made money himself but it certainly got the attention of the right people, who not only identified with the cause but also believed in the bearer of the dream.

Things have not always been easy for Ron. Doubling as a horse trainer and artist,  he has barely made it out of the woods yet. Like much of what Africa is gripped with,  Ron is but a drop in the ocean of young gifted individuals who have much to give but with none to give them a chance. However hard life throws its worst balls at him,  Ron is not discouraged. He still believes in his dream to make it out of the woods and make a name for himself. His inspiration? His wife and his very close friends who have stood by him.  It is no wonder why his paintings speak of such feeling and evoke deep-seated emotions, they are merely pages of his own life.

"For this reason,  I won't stop. This is my life,  I can't just give up," he says as he prepares another canvas for yet another enthralling masterpiece. He is clearly a man on a mission,  and his future is clearly shining brighter with each brush stroke.

The Call of The Wild

The world is changing and there isn't enough time. The effects of human encroachment into wildlife reserves and state parks including illegal ivory trade as well as poaching is threatening the very existence of what little wildlife we have have left. In three years alone, ivory-seeking poachers have killed 100,000 African elephants, according to a new study that provides the first reliable continent-wide estimates of illegal kills (visit http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2014/08/140818-elephants-africa-poaching-cites-census/). The remaining wildlife are now calling to us
it is time we act. While the governments and various companies are doing everything they can to stop the senseless yet brutal end of such unique creatures, they can't do it alone. We are appealing now to the art community, it is us who draw inspiration from these amazing creatures, therefore it is us who need to be on the forefront armed with brushes and canvases. Art has a voice, one that everyone can hear, understand and respond to.
How? By being a part of the "Save Me" Wildlife Conservation Art Exhibition. .  BWP250.00 (US$25.00)/per artist will help you secure a place at the event. This will help get resources met in time for the launch of the event. For every item (painting, sculpture, tapestry etc.) sold, we'll be giving away 35% of the proceeds to a wildlife conservation sanctuary and the rest is for the artist. This donation will help assist in the transportation and relocation of the endangered wildlife and resources to where they are most needed.  Time is running out.Your participation is greatly appreciated. Details of the venue and date will be announced soon.
